This Huntington Woods home originally featured cedar shake siding that was central to its architectural character. The homeowner wanted a lower-maintenance replacement, but not at the expense of the home’s proportions, texture, or traditional appearance. Matching the Details That Made the Cedar Work
The original cedar shakes gave this home a very specific look, so the replacement had to match more than just the color. The reveal, shake size, trim proportions, and transitions around the windows all affected whether the new siding would still feel right on the house.
Rather than treating the project like a standard siding replacement, we used the existing exterior as the reference point. The goal was to preserve the scale and rhythm of the original cedar while moving to an engineered wood siding system that required less maintenance.
That attention to the smaller details helped the finished exterior feel like an updated version of the same home, not a completely different design.
